Kelsey Chomik

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor-Intern (LPC-Intern) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). My formal education and training has prepared me to counsel children, adolescents, teenagers, and adults.

I chose to enter the counseling field because I found great purpose in walking alongside others as they discover their inner potential for healing and growth.

My area of focus while obtaining my Master’s degree was in play therapy. I am currently working towards receiving my registered play therapist certification (RPT), which will make me a specialist in this area of work. Play therapy is proven effective for a variety of presenting concerns and is a developmentally appropriate form of therapy for children. My approach to therapy when working with children and adolescents greatly involves the parents. The purpose behind involving the parents is to gain a better understanding of what is occurring at home, to gauge progress on treatment goals, all while working together to enhance the child-parent relationship.

Previously I worked at Children’s Health Inpatient Eating Disorders Unit in Plano, Texas. It was here that I gained and solidified my passion for working with those who struggle with disordered eating. My approach to therapy when working with this population is to help clients discover the function and purpose behind their eating disorder. Once this is accomplished, healing and long-term change occurs through replacing destructive coping mechanisms with healthy coping skills.

I completed my clinical internship at Children’s Health Outpatient Psychiatry Unit in Dallas, Texas where I worked with individuals struggling with ADHD, anger management, anxiety, behavioral outburst, depression, self-harm, suicide, and stress.

I strive to create a warm, non-judgmental environment that will establish a strong working relationship between the client and myself. My goal is to encourage clients to gain awareness through personal exploration. I trust that clients are capable of moving towards becoming the person they would like to be. My role as the therapist is to provide support, guidance, and structure so the client can discover personalized solutions to the issues that are currently affecting their lives.

In my spare time I enjoy being outside, traveling and learning about new cultures, and spending time with my family and friends.
